Belin Quartet at the Botanical Garden
DES MOINES, Iowa (July 5, 2016) –
TheBelin Quartet, managed byCivic Music Association, will perform the Shostakovich Quartet no.1 on Friday, July 8that 12:15pm in the Botanical Garden. Debra Peckumn, Director of Philanthropy for the Botanical Garden and former Executive Director of the Civic Music Association, will introduce the quartet.
The Belin Quartet, consisting of alternating violinistsJulie Fox Henson, John Helmich, Tracy Engman Finkelshteyn,violistSherida Josephson,and cellistGeorge Work,was established in 2000 through a grant gifted to the Civic Music Association by theIowa Foundation for Education, Environment, and the Arts, a charitable foundation created byDavid Belin. Belin envisioned a community with the opportunity to share in the joys of classical music ,which is realized through the Belin Quartet.
Admission into the Botanical Garden is free on July 8 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. through the generosity of theIowa Foundation for Education, Environment and the Arts. The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden is a vibrant, 14-acre public garden in the heart of downtown Des Moines. On January 1, 2013 the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden launched a new beginning. After years of planning, a bold vision, generous community support and a new staff, the Botanical Garden assumed operatorship of a 34-year old conservatory and 14 acres of land bordering the Des Moines River. Armed with a mission of exploring, explaining and celebrating the world of plants, we are a garden now. The Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) privately governed, not-for-profit institution with ten years of operating support at $645,000 per year from the City of Des Moines, Des Moines Water Works and Bravo Greater Des Moines. In addition, the Phase II Endowment goal will grow the total endowment to $3.6 million.
