Extended hours for Trellis Café and return of Thursday Nights in the Garden
DES MOINES, Iowa (May 24, 2016) –
Since the opening of Trellis Café two and a half years ago, many guests at the Botanical Garden have longed to experience the café beyond the 11 a.m. to 2 pm. lunch service. Due to this popular request, Lisa LaValle and her staff are happy to announce new extended hours for the café. Beginning on May 24, guests can enjoy the popular space overlooking the ½ acre water garden and downtown Des Moines from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Tuesday – Sunday, closed Mondays). The restaurant will still serve their signature lunch service from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will round out the morning and afternoon with coffee, a full bar, pastries, parfaits and grab and go offerings to enjoy either in Trellis or in the garden (with a price of admission).
In addition, the popular Thursday Nights in the Garden returns this week, beginning on May 26 and running through September 29. The Botanical Garden, the Garden Shop and Trellis Café will all be open until 8 p.m. every Thursday night.
“We are excited to share Thursday evenings with everyone again this year,” says Lisa LaValle, chef and owner of Trellis Café. “We will have seasonally-inspired, warm small plate menu items that will change each week along with a full bar, drink specials and local craft beers to enjoy.”
And for the lawn game fans out there, croquet and bocce ball games will be played on a rotating basis on the celebration lawn outside. Thursday Nights were a popular gathering spot for the community last year and the Botanical Garden is adding even more to the experience this year. More information about upcoming events and programming, as well as admission hours and rates can be found online at dmbotanicalgarden.com.
On January 1, 2013 the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden launched a new beginning. After years of planning, a bold vision, generous community support and a new staff, the Botanical Garden assumed operatorship of a 34-year old conservatory and 14 acres of land bordering the Des Moines River. Armed with a mission of exploring, explaining and celebrating the world of plants, we are a garden now. The Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) privately governed, not-for-profit institution with ten years of operating support at $645,000 per year from the City of Des Moines, Des Moines Water Works and Bravo Greater Des Moines. In addition, the Phase II Endowment goal will grow the total endowment to $3.6 million.
