The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden can only grow with volunteers! Dig in the dirt or provide support for an event - opportunities exist for many interests and experience levels. Learn, have fun and help guests enjoy this unique environment that blooms year-round. Volunteers provide support in many areas including horticulture, education, special events and guest services.

Please note that the majority of volunteer roles are on-going commitments throughout the year. There are one-time events such as winter and spring break family activities and the Spring Garden Festival where we welcome assistance from those who cannot volunteer on a regular basis. There are a limited numbers of short-term and group assignments through out the year.
The Botanical Garden does not accept applications for court-appointed community service at this time.
Core Volunteer Application
For those interested in volunteering regularly (weekly, bi-weekly, etc.). The majority of openings are during weekdays, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. In addition, there are a limited number of roles available on weekends. At this time there are no consistent volunteer roles available in the evening.
One Time / Short Term Volunteer Application
For those available to assist with events or activities such as the Spring Garden Festival, winter and spring break family programs or various horticulture projects as they are available.
Group Volunteer Application
Group projects for up to eight persons are available very sporadically. Opportunities are primarily availlable in the spring, summer or fall months. Groups may also consider assisting with a day of programming during spring and winter break family activities. Groups are welcome to inquire at anytime about the need for such assistance.
Application for prospective Friends candidates:
Provided is a position description for the Friends committee as well as the application. The Friends of the Greater des Moines Botanical Garden provides support to the Botanical Garden through their role as ambassadors. Friends volunteers contribute time, talent, experience and financial resources to the Botanical Garden as they work to develop membership and visitor engagement activities. Applications are due by May 4, 2018.
